Leo Springer (1934), though never aspiring to a formal title, counts among the best Dame players of the Netherlands. Internationally he is recognized as the foremost authority on endgame problems.
Because of this specialty, a similar distinction has been made here. The endgames feature limited material and less emphasis on the combinatorial aspects of the game.
